Registration and Licensing

Registration

All Medical Radiation practitioners are required to be registered under the National Law from 1 July 2012.  The National Law limits the use of certain titles.  See s.113 of the National Law for the protected titles for Medical Radiation practitioners.

The purpose of registration is to protect the public by ensuring that only health practitioners who have the skills, qualifications, and knowledge to provide safe care are registered.

Licensing

The Victorian Radiation Act 2005, which came into operation on 1 September 2007, requires users of radiation sources in Victoria to have a "use license". This process ensures that all radiation users are subject to common radiation controls.  Practitioners undertaking supervised practice are exempt from this requirement.
